How to Write Romance Plot Outline For Novel?

1.  Introduce the male character (who feels incomplete)

Introduce his world. The person is successful in many areas of his life. However, he surely has a gap when it comes to a romantic relationship. Give a hint towards the conflict that might create problems for the love to come. Explain the hero’s non-romance-based goals in life.

2.  The protagonist meets a love interest for the first time, but there is conflict.

When the two main characters meet each other for the first time, they will likely hate on sight. Both of them are from different countries, with different views on life.

3.  Characters are compelled to spend time with each other.

Various reasons have compelled the characters to spend time with each other, and even to collaborate to attain a goal. They still dislike each other, but the sparks arouse some fire. When a friend notices and comments on it, they clearly deny it and say there is nothing to be attracted to.

4.  Characters have contrasting goals in life.

Despite the growing attraction between the characters, their lives are still different.

5.  Both of them are bound together in a circumstance

The characters start to feel that they can’t deny the sexual attraction towards each other and start to surrender to it.

6.  The character’s past conflicts with the growing relationship

Both are pursuing their own goals and this starts a conflict between them, even though they are still trying to collaborate. (External conflict)

Alternatively, the hero has fears about the relationship which are rooted in his past. Due to internal conflict, he sabotages the relationship. He pretends that his fear of being emotionally vulnerable is because of his other, more essential commitments. (Internal conflict)
